How it works

Structure creates momentum.

There's plenty happening across sales and marketing already, just no clear system connecting it together or guiding what comes next. That's what we fix.

01

Diagnose and prioritise

We look at how opportunities are generated, managed and followed up, where momentum is lost, and what’s actually driving results.

02

Build a clear plan

A practical plan across marketing (visibility, content and outreach) and sales (process, pipeline, follow-up and conversion).

03

Put structure around it

Defined sales process, clear pipeline stages, simple relevant metrics, weekly rhythm and accountability.

04

Execute and build momentum

We run social media and personal brand, support outreach and nurture, coach the team, and run sales meetings.

05

Build internal capability

The goal isn’t dependency. It’s helping your team build the capability to run this properly themselves.

Frequently asked questions

The basics

Most sales training companies teach your team a set of skills in a workshop and then leave them to apply it on their own. Blackjet builds the actual system, the process, pipeline, metrics, and weekly rhythm, together with your sales team, so it's a process they own and buy into, not something imposed on them from outside. That's also why it sticks, and why you get far less pushback embedding it than you would with an off-the-shelf training programme. We also work across marketing as well as sales, so the two halves of growth are built to work together instead of sitting in separate corners of the business.

Yes. Most of our clients work with us across both, because a marketing plan that generates leads your sales team can't convert is wasted effort, and a sales system with nothing coming into it has nothing to convert. You can start with whichever side is the bigger problem right now, and add the other later if it makes sense.

Marketing builds visibility, through social media, personal brand, and email nurture, that generates opportunities. Sales builds the system that converts those opportunities into closed deals, through process, pipeline, coaching, and leadership. Yes, you can get both, and when you do, they run under one plan rather than as two separate, disconnected engagements.

Is Blackjet right for us?

Generally businesses doing $1M+ in revenue with an existing sales team. You're usually at a pivot or growth stage: there's activity happening across sales and marketing, but it's not converting into the results it should.

We work broadly across professional services and B2B more generally, with our deepest, most proven experience in insurance, mortgage and finance, and recruitment. Beyond that, we've delivered real results for a genuinely wide range of businesses, including IT and cyber security, manufacturing, commercial interior fit-outs, invoice finance, co-working and property, training and coaching, environmental safety advisory, and accounting, among others. If your business runs on a considered, relationship-led sale, industry label aside, we're very likely a good fit.

We're built for businesses that already have a sales team and some marketing happening. Our ideal client isn't asking "how do I get started," they're asking "why isn't this working better than it is?" That said, if you're currently running founder-led sales, we can still help, use our resources and lean on us as needed, and let us know when you're ready to bring someone on to run sales day-to-day. If you're starting from zero, with no sales activity or team at all, we're probably not the right fit yet.

Yes. We work alongside them rather than replacing them, which frees them up to work more in a way that's better aligned with the business's actual goals, instead of being stretched across everything.

Yes, and this is exactly when we're most useful. A lot of the owners we work with are still deeply across sales personally, and haven't had the chance to step back. Our work is as much about capturing that knowledge and turning it into a system the wider team can run, as it is about hitting numbers this quarter. The goal is a business where selling doesn't live in one person's head, so it's not dependent on you being there every day, and eventually, you can actually take a holiday.

Yes. When a business has its sales and marketing systems and processes properly in place, it genuinely helps with succession planning or a future sale. Having those systems documented and embedded reduces the business's reliance on the owner, particularly where the owner has been the one carrying sales or marketing leadership personally, and that's exactly what makes a business easier to exit or hand over.

There's definitely an element of change and growth required to work with Blackjet. It's one of our core values, we call it Seek New Horizons. If you're not ready to evolve, adapt, and change, this probably isn't the right fit for you.

How engagements work

It's a 30-minute call. We look at your current setup, talk through where you want to go, and map out the most effective next step. Regardless of the outcome, you'll walk away with a few key takeaways you can put into action in your business straight away. You don't need to have it all figured out before you call, that's what the conversation is for.

Yes. It starts with a discovery call, where we identify where the gaps are and diagnose the best first step to get you moving closer to your goals, before you commit to anything bigger.

Most businesses we work with stay engaged for at least 12 months, and we have clients who've been with us for considerably longer. Once results start to flow, we love continuing to help clients close more deals and increase revenue, so a lot of engagements run well past the first year.

We work with your existing team. The goal is the opposite of creating dependency on us: we build your team's internal capability so they can run the system properly themselves once it's embedded.

It's a real deliverable, not just branding. It's the sales system we build with you through the Sales Growth Session, your process, your pipeline stages, your metrics, your rhythm, named after your own business (internally, ours is "The Blackjet Way"). It's the working document your team actually runs from, not a generic framework with your logo on it. It also means the knowledge doesn't live only in your head, it's captured and embedded in your team, so the business can keep running and selling well even when you're not the one doing it.

You can engage either on its own. That said, the strongest results tend to come from doing both, since the two systems are built to reinforce each other.

It's delivered directly by Blackjet's leadership team, who bring over 35 years of combined experience in sales and marketing leadership. They're supported by a small, consistent delivery team and specialist contractors brought in for specific projects. There's no franchise model and no templated delivery behind the scenes, it's the same people and the same small team on every engagement.

Results and proof

Results vary by engagement, but here are a few real examples. One salesperson's new-business close rate moved from 50% to 90% during a Sales Leadership engagement. Following a Sales Growth Session and Sales Leadership, one client saw 35.7% revenue growth in a single quarter, and it wasn't a cost-cutting story, both operating expenses and cost of sales increased too, revenue simply grew faster. On the marketing side, a commercial insurance adviser achieved a 9.9% engagement rate from a standing start, well above the 1-3% industry benchmark, and a billboard advertising company saw outbound activity up over 1,100%, meetings booked up around 50%, and closed deals up nearly 200% in the quarter after their new sales system went in, with one month becoming the highest revenue month in the company's history.

It depends which side of the business we're talking about, but we're specific either way, not vague. On the sales side, we look at profit first, then sales revenue, then conversion rates, both at a company level and for each individual salesperson. On the marketing side, we start with brand awareness and engagement, then lead volume, and ultimately how many of those leads convert into sales, since visibility on its own isn't the goal. We agree on which of these matter most for your business early in the engagement, and track them as we go, rather than reporting against a generic set of vanity metrics.

We define what success looks like early in the engagement, so we're both working towards the same outcomes from day one. It's also worth knowing that the first few months can be just about reworking the system and getting the team properly on board, that's normal, not a sign of trouble. Honestly, the only real reason it doesn't work is when the client isn't committed to the process. If you're willing to stay involved, we'll keep adjusting until it does.

Practical details

We're based in Wellington, New Zealand, but we work with businesses across Australasia. Other timezones can work too, depending on where you're based.

We're not an outsourced people provider. If you're after a contractor or a secondment to plug a short-term gap, that's not us. If you're after a long-term solution, building the system and the capability so your team can run it themselves, that's exactly what we do. You and your team stay involved throughout, because that's what makes it stick after we're gone.
